
Following fighting between the M23 and Wazalendo, about 15,000 residents of localities in Walikale territory, including Buleusa, Katrisa, Bushimba, Kilambo, Kibati, and Kiteku, have been without drinking water for more than a week.
Due to fighting between M23 rebels and Wazalendo fighters on Mulema Hill, where the main spring is located, the water catchment system and distribution network were destroyed, resulting in this situation. Technical teams are unable to access the area to evaluate the damage and make repairs because of the clashes, which have gotten worse since last week. Families without access to potable water are resorting to untreated sources, which raises the possibility of epidemics. Basic healthcare is difficult for the impacted local health facilities to provide. In this section, civil society actors and health officials
