The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) detained self-proclaimed General Kasereka Kasiano, also known as Kabido, the leader of the armed group Front des Patriotes pour la Paix – Armée du Peuple (FPP/AP), in Butembo, North Kivu province, on Thursday, June 12.
Before being transported to Kinshasa, Kabido was moved to Beni, according to our sources, who cited the coordinator of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) Wazalendo/Front Nord.
Regarding this issue, the Congolese army has not yet released an official statement.
This former Mai-Mai leader had been especially active and feared in the Lubero and Beni territories for a number of years, according to regional administrative and civil society sources. In March of last year, he swore loyalty to the M23 rebellion.
