
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, three (3) civilians were killed in fresh fighting between M23 rebels in the Bushwira group and Wazalendo elements in Kabare, South Kivu.
One of the victims was a student who passed away while attending class.
Residents claim that all activities were interrupted when the clashes broke out in the morning. There were reports of residents being displaced. Following these clashes, activities in Bushwira and Chirunga remained paralyzed throughout Saturday, according to the same source.

According to witnesses, a number of teachers made an effort to protect the pupils during the times when heavy and light weapon fire could be heard. It should be mentioned that Wazalendo elements and M23 rebels, especially those in the Irambi Katana group, frequently engage in combat on Kabare territory.
